My Story
Hello, my name is Jean Deacon. I recently completed a City & Guilds Diploma with distinction in becoming a Successful Civil Celebrant through Regent Academy. This long-distance learning experience required self-motivation and commitment.

I began my career in nursing at the age of 19, training in Hull in 1976, where I was born. I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1979 and subsequently moved to Stockport. There, I worked as a Staff Nurse for one year, pursued Midwifery, and later served as a Ward Sister on a Surgical Ward. In 1989, I completed Health Visiting Training at Manchester Polytechnic. In 1993, I returned to the East Riding of Yorkshire, where I balanced part-time work with parenting two daughters. During this period, I developed and coordinated services to support parents across the region.

After a diverse and fulfilling career, I retired from the NHS in 2019, having dedicated 43 years to the service. Concurrently, I have been working as a freelance trainer for a charity focusing on emotional wellbeing in families, a role I continue to this day.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I chose to contribute by administering vaccines and have maintained my nurse registration.

My new venture as a celebrant has been a rewarding journey. I find great comfort and joy in meeting families in their homes and consider it a privilege to offer personalised and unique ceremonies. I plan to specialise in funerals, honoring the opportunity to provide bespoke ceremonies as final tributes to loved ones.

I am committed to delivering the best possible service and look forward to meeting and supporting families.
